Big Bean’s Top Picks: Quarantine Edition

Much like the rest of the world, we’ve been feeling the impact of COVID-19 due to mandatory social distancing and stay-at-home orders. Not to mention, the temporary closure of all of our favorite happy hour and nightlife spots. To make myself feel better, (and hopefully you too) I comprised a list of my top 5 recent projects from the crib. Here are the albums, mixtapes, and EPs that have gotten me through this quarantine:

The Rookie And The Vet – Tierra Traniece

“The Rookie And The Vet” is a 6-track project providing listeners with nostalgic moments while boasting Tierra Traniece’s skills as a tasteful lyricist. The 2019 release of her record-breaking single “Fool Me Once” produced by Rippa de la Hoya served as her introduction to the male-dominated industry of rap. However, as the title of her EP suggests, Tierra Traniece is no beginner when it comes to the pen.

My favorite tracks? Intro, Who Do You Love, and GNO. Listen to the EP here.

War With Myself – Waffle

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that I did not see this coming. As a matter of fact, I don’t think anyone anticipated Waffle’s rise as an artist; for those who remember, he was predicted to be one of the best football players to come out of Booker T. Washington High School. Fast forward to today, and “War With Myself” has made its way into my daily rotation, with songs for each one of my moods. He brings an aura unique to Miami, and the production of his project compliments his sound perfectly.

My favorite tracks? In My Bag/Last Time (ft. AP), Interlude, and Spiteful. Listen to War With Myself here.

31 Beans 2 – Smook da Mad Man & Inikio

Bridging the gap between the toughest neighborhoods in Broward and Dade, this talented duo put together a beautifully constructed novel narrating true tales of their daily life in this sequel to their first tape, 31 Beans. Set to a range of jazz, neo-soul, and trap beats, they bring poetry to life in this soon-to-be classic project. It’s not your typical tape full of club bangers– it’s much more. Only real music stands the test of time, and 31 Beans 2 has already passed with flying colors.

My favorite tracks? Stay Away 1.5, F.W.M., and Cloudy (ft. Jayhitup & Nephiilove). Do yourself a favor and listen to it here.

Billiano – Ice Billion Berg

I may be a little biased because I’ve been a Berg fan since I was 13 years old at North Dade Middle, but I really f*ck with this tape. He brings back the nostalgic feeling of the old IceBerg with “Up There” ft. MGT, and then steps completely out of his comfort zone and brings us something different with 2 U ft. Flo Rida & St. Loreto. You know it isn’t a complete Billion project if he didn’t include a few tracks for the girls, which he does with Bushy B and Cappuccino. Even if you’re not apart of the Ice Billion Berg fan club don’t worry, this project isn’t strictly for the smokers.

My favorite tracks? Grow Together (ft. Bushy B), Up There (ft. MGT), and In Ya Eyes. Listen to Billiano here.

Delayed – Keemo

Now this highly anticipated body of work left me nothing but impressed. Seriously. Talk about versatile? Keemo delivers bar after bar, and surprisingly, note after note as he shows off his skills as both a lyricist and a singer. “Delayed” comes off as such an ironic title because to me, this project came right on time. I can hear the longevity in his sound, and I’m certain the world will be seeing a lot more from him.

My favorite tracks? What Would You Do, Something Special, & Delayed (ft. Philo). You can listen to Delayed here.
